Before you pay for a repair — or a whole new water heater — spend two minutes checking whether the manufacturer owes you coverage. Water heater warranties are longer than most people realize, and they are checkable online with nothing but the serial number.

The Manufacture Date Catch
Here is the part that surprises people: warranties officially run from the date of installation, but only when you can document it. If you have no invoice or product registration — common when the heater came with the house — manufacturers default to the manufacture date, read from the serial number. If It Is Still Under Warranty
Contact the installing plumber or a local pro first — most brands (Bradford White explicitly) route claims through the contractor and distributor, not directly from homeowners. Keep the old part or tank available for inspection, and get the claim approved before authorizing work, since unauthorized replacements are a common reason claims get denied.
